St. George’s College, Mussoorie
Nestled in the serene village of Barlowganj, with the majestic Himalayas as its backdrop, St. George’s College has a legacy that spans over a century. Founded in 1853 by the Capuchin Fathers to provide quality education to British Catholic children following the Public School System in Britain, the institution was entrusted to the Brothers of the Patrician Congregation in 1893. Affectionately known as Manor House, St. George’s College is an all-boys’ residential school affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). The students, proudly known as Manorites, are nurtured in an environment that balances tradition with modernity, fostering integrity, discipline, and academic excellence.
Generations of young men have graduated from the portals of this venerable institution, imbued with the cherished qualities of undiminished fortitude, honour, and resilience. Distinguished among these, is a long list of celebrated sportsmen, religious leaders, educationists, statesmen and bureaucrats, stalwarts of the Defence Forces, actors and musicians.
The March of Time
The story of St. George’s College traces its roots back to 1808, when Bishop Daniel Delany founded the Congregation of the Brothers of St. Patrick in Ireland, with a vision to spread education and values.
Decades later, in 1853, the Capuchin Fathers established St. George’s College in Mussoorie, laying the foundation of an institution that would grow into a beacon of learning in the Himalayas. In 1893, the College was entrusted to the Patrician Brothers, who carried forward the mission of education with dedication and faith.
From then to now, the Patrician Brothers have expanded their mission across the world, establishing numerous educational institutions in India and abroad, always with the same guiding principle: to impart education that shapes character as much as intellect.
Today, St. George’s College stands as a vibrant community where children of all faiths are welcomed, and the spirit of universal brotherhood is deeply nurtured. True faith here is not confined to words, but lived out daily—through service, through compassion, and through meaningful relationships.
